San Antonio Water System crews tested for ammonia Monday after a sewer spill flowed into the San Antonio River.
A caller reported the ruptured 30-inch sewer main in brush near 8510 Mission Parkway around 1 p.m. Sunday. By 4:30 p.m., more than 100,000 gallons had spilled, triggering a public notice. Crews contained the flow around 9 p.m.
The tests conducted Monday discovered zero ammonia in the South Side area.

Crews were investigating potential causes for the break while they excavated the pipes. Extended drought, followed by recent rain, could have contributed to soil movement in the area, officials said. The area has high clay content.
Anne Hayden, a spokesperson for SAWS, noted the rain had also increased the river's flow, which helped clear the spill.
"In all likelihood, it's safe at this point," Hayden said. "It's pretty chilly. I'm not sure if you want to jump in the water right now, but you should be just fine."
The break occurred in brush far from the running trail along the river. SAWS crews had replaced pipes in the area in 1993.
A 2013 consent decree with the federal Environmental Protection Agency requires SAWS to invest an estimated $855 million more that what the utility would have spent over 10 to 12 years to reduce sewer spills.
Hayden said officials were surprised by Sunday's break because SAWS has had good results under the consent decree.
San Antonio residents can help the utility improve sewer performance by throwing wipes and grease in the trash, as well as immediately reporting sewer spills at 210-704-7297.
