Rockland — Success breeds success and for a business — expansion.
That also holds true for a successful Midcoast organization that teaches a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting and submission holds.
And the Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school has been so successful in teaching the art of the discipline in Camden for six years it will expand to a larger, modern space 10 miles down the road in Rockland.
Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is owned and operated by professor Hayden Martz, a black belt under highly-regarded Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, professor and Mixed Martial Arts fighter Tom DeBlass.
Martz said Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is about to take a significant step in its growth, and will expand to a new facility located in a state-of-the-art building at 4 Cedar St., near Good Tern Co-Op and across from Steel-Pro in this coastal city.
The grand opening of the new venue is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Martz said Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been taught for six years in a small studio on Molyneax Road in Camden and that venue will no longer be operational.
The Rockland facility will feature expanded mat space, radiant floor heating, central air, shower, parent and student lounge, and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pro shop.
Martz said Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a family-friendly school with something for all, from the serious competitor to the casual hobbyist.
"Come learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, welcoming, fun environment," he said. "This expansion allows Flow to offer an increased schedule, and a wide range of classes, with something suited for everyone."
Among those offerings will be adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (ages 16 and older), children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (ages 5 to 15), women's-only classes, self-defense courses, expanded training and discounts for first-responders, We Defy Foundation scholarships for military veterans, family memberships and cardio kickboxing.
"Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a fun, clean, safe place for adults and kids to learn and train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with great training partners," Martz said. "Come find out how BJJ can help make you stronger, leaner, more flexible, happier, and healthier than you've ever been.
"At Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu we want to give everyone the opportunity to make sure Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is right for them. We happen to think that once you try it, you will be hooked instantly. There are many different people from all walks of life that train BJJ, all for different reasons.
"Whether you're looking for fundamentals for self-defense, kids bully prevention, want to compete in Gi or Nogi BJJ competition, or just simply want to have fun and get in shape, we have something for everyone."
Additionally a bundle of FLOW Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students have excelled in competitions over the years.
Martz is the head instructor at Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He began training about 11 years ago and is one of the founding members of the school. He takes a concept-based approach to teaching, and believes building a strong foundation grounded in the fundamental principles and concepts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the key to a student’s long-term success and full development as a martial artist and athlete.
The curriculum Martz uses in designing classes at Flow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu offers a balance of self-defense and sport techniques, and offers opportunities for the casual hobbyist and serious athlete to thrive.
