Just two months ago, no one would have believed that a week in which Mississippi was averaging 961 COVID-19 cases a day would be a good one. Yet, that is where we are.
Mississippi’s total of presumptive cases of COVID-19 now stands at 64,400 after the Mississippi Department of Health reported 961 newly identified cases on Thursday.
After averaging nearly 1,300 cases a day for 15 days in July, the last seven days have seen an average of less than 1,000.
Having said that, hospitalizations (970) were still high as of Tuesday night. That number represents a bit of a dip from the single-day high of 989 on July 31.
The verifiable single-day high for number of cases had been 1,775 on July 30 as all of the top 10 single-days high have come since July 16.
There have been 1,825 total deaths reported (21 new).
Cumulatively thus far, Hinds County has the most cases with 5,487, followed by Desoto County with 3,523, Madison County with 2,387, Harrison with 2,378, Rankin County with 2,220, Jackson with 2,201 and Jones County with 1,842.
Counties with the most deaths are Hinds with 116, Lauderdale with 90, Neshoba with 90, Madison with 63, Leflore with 62, Jones with 58, Forrest with 55, Monroe with 51 and Holmes with 48.
