Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson and kicker Chris Boswell did not practice on Saturday in the team’s final tune-up session of the week and might miss the Steelers’ Week 13 game against Washington on Monday.
Nelson, who had an MRI performed on his knee on Monday, missed his second consecutive practice session and is listed as doubtful to play against Washington.
Nelson did not suffer an obvious injury during the Steelers’ Week 12 win over Baltimore and was able to finish the game, but head coach Mike Tomlin said he had a knee injury that needed attention on Thursday.
Nelson played 89% of the Steelers’ defensive snaps, a season low. Second-year backup outside corner Justin Layne and versatile slot man Cam Sutton would be the most likely options to replace Nelson.
Boswell was a full participant in Friday’s practice, but did not practice on Saturday and is listed as questionable.
Boswell was 2 for 2 on field goals against Baltimore, but missed an extra point. He is 18 of 19 on the season on field goals.
The Steelers signed backup Matthew Wright to the practice squad on Nov. 30. Wright had been with the team in training camp in 2019. The UCF grad has never kicked in an NFL game. With the Knights, he was 12 of 14 on field goals as a senior in 2018. Wright is eligible to be promoted from the practice squad to the active roster for the game on Monday.
