PEORIA (HOI) -- One year after more than a dozen people were shot on the Peoria Riverfront and still no arrests. Although, Peoria Police said they do have an idea of who may be involved as they continue to investigate.

More than 100 shots were fired July 19th, 2020.

"My lower half is like, almost dead, you know?" said shooting victim, Denaysha Nellum.

One of those bullets hit Denaysha Nellum in her spine. She talked to Heart of Illinois ABC last September.

Lieutenant John Briggs, with the Peoria Police Department said 13 other people were shot and they are still looking for one of those victims.

"We believe possibly their actions provoked this incident, but that person is no longer in the city of Peoria," said Lieutenant Briggs.

There were more than 100 people there on the riverfront around 4 in the morning, for what police said was a party. Lieutenant Briggs said those parties had been an ongoing issue in the city.

When the shots were fired, he said all of their resources were directed to the crowds.

"While we're doing that, the rest of the city still has to be policed. We're still getting emergency calls for service that we have to respond to," said Lieutenant Briggs.

Although there were videos from that night, Lieutenant Briggs said they had not helped advance the case.

"It's from very far away, it's very grainy. We are unable to make any ID's of not only people, but vehicles," said Lieutenant Briggs.

And of the hundreds there, no one has said a word.

"When you have anywhere between 100 and 200 people on scene and no one comes forward to say who was down there shooting, that's where it becomes difficult for us," said Lieutenant Briggs.

He also said officers believe there were more than 15 guns involved that night. Police have recovered three of those guns in separate instances. All of which, were stolen.

"We're talking about a very distinct group of why this occurred," said Lieutenant Briggs.

As for Nellum, doctors told her then, she may never walk again.

"It gets so bad to where I have to stop and just, like, clench up, like 'Oh my goodness,'" said Nellum.

Heart of Illinois ABC did reach out to Nellum to see how she was doing now, but were unable to get ahold of her.
