“Thursday morning at approximately 2:59am the RFD received a call from a fire alarm company reporting a fire alarm and water flow activation at the Zero Waste Facility located on Cranberry Highway.

First arriving crews found a smoke condition on the tipping floor of the 103,000 foot commercial building. The sprinkler system had activated against a portion of the tipping floor on the D side or south side of the building.

Due to the large amount of unprocessed construction demolition materials on the tipping floor at the time, the Chief developed a two-pronged plan of attack which involved using two front end loaders to begin to remove materials to gain access to the seat of the fire and wet down the debris as it was removed from the building and then using Tower 1, open up vent holes in the sheet metal along the exterior south side wall to gain access and allow both ventilation and access to attack the fire with additional water from above the affected area.

The fire was contained to approximately 4000-5000 sq ft which was approximately 40 feet high. The RFD was on scene for approximately 3.5 hrs. There were no injuries reported.”-“Rochester Fire Department.
