Practicing yoga can improve strength, balance and flexibility, be relaxing a improve sleep, and can be a tool for managing stress. And its easy to get into even if you’ve never tried it before.
This June, the Recreation Department will offer several yoga classes for all ages and abilities, include two new classes not included in the seasonal guide. Registration is open now, with links available below to register for an entire session, with drop-in space available for individual classes as space allows. For each class, please bring a yoga mat and a water bottle.
Beginning Yoga
Fridays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. starting June 3 with Deborah Cannon
Learn the basics of yoga to increase your strength and flexibility of body and mine. Personal attention to form and alignment. This class is for ages 16 and older. Register online.
Integrative Yoga
Sundays from 4 to 5:15 p.m. starting June 5 with Deborah Cannon
A blend of hatha, vinyasa, bikram and mindfulness, the class will explore the likes of body and mind with a gentle beginning to a balanced workout for the body and time for sarasana. This class is for ages 16 and older and intended for those with some yoga experience, but it is not required. Register online.
Morning Yoga Flow
Sundays from 10:30 to 11:10 a.m. starting June 5 with Skylar King
This class will be dedicated to waking bodies and minds, and the connection between the two. Students will practice flowing through Asana and discuss yogic principles. All ages are welcome. Register online.
Yoga for Presence
Wednesdays from 6 to 6:40 p.m. starting June 1 with Skylar King
This class offers the opportunity to take a break from everyday anxieties and experience the present moment through a slow Asana practice. All ages are welcome. Register online.
Yoga for Stress Trauma
Tuesdays at 7 p.m. starting June 14 with Natalie Johnston
Each class will consist of a 30-minute classroom style discussion followed by a 30-minute yoga class to reinforce theme. All levels welcome.
- June 14 is Experiencing the Present Moment: PACEs, or positive and adverse childhood experiences, connecting brain and body. Register online.
- June 21 is Understanding and Practicing Choices: make choices to balance chemical messengers in your body. Register online.
- June 29 is Creating Rhythms: create rhythms to help regulate emotions and stress for day to day function. Register online.
