TEXARKANA, Ark. — A new group of Texarkana flow artists will share their fluid artistry Sunday with a community event.

Starting at 4 p.m. at Bobby Ferguson Park on the Arkansas side of town, flow artists will gather for a flow art party. It's a chance to get together and share enthusiasm for performance art that even has built-in social distancing, perhaps perfect for these pandemic times.

Lace Davis is co-host for this Flow Artists Unite - TK party and says they aim to show fellow performers in the Texarkana community that there are many fellow flow artists here. People are welcome to join the fun.

It's also a way to be social and have fun in our community at a difficult time, finding peace with people who enjoy the same activities, Davis said.

"We can all have a good time safely," Davis said. She thinks the event should last until 7 p.m.

She got into the art via her housemate. They started doing using rope darts a few months ago after working with poi spinning. "It's actually a performance art. We do fire dancing, LED," she said, adding that there are hoopers around the community, too, as well as fan dancers. Much of this art is dance, she explained.

"We want to get as many people around our town that do this stuff, because the majority are places like Shreveport, Dallas — they're further away," Davis said, noting it's rare to see people doing it here. But they're here.

"We actually do have a community," she said. She says there are at least a couple hundred around. People have joined the Facebook group, and she knows people here who perform out of town.

"I wanted to bring everybody together and try because it is hard to find each other. You don't just see people outside spinning ropes and hoops unless they're in their own yard," Davis said.

She thinks of these people as hidden gems who want to perform.

"Even if it's not for someone, it may just be for ourselves or YouTube," she said. "Even the introverts want to have fun."

She took part in ballet, marching band, gymnastics and other performing arts when younger, so this is a natural extension of such interests.

Davis said they will set up staging areas with rope rings and practice social distancing. It's a kid-friendly and family-friendly gathering. If people want to participate, they are welcome to show up at the event. Masks are only required if people are with other people in close quarters and they aren't part of the same group.

The event blossomed after she posted on social media about it a month ago, and it grew from there with people expressing interest. A few flow artists from out of town will participate, too.
