It hasn’t been easy for us at Lotus either, and we have relied on our yoga skills and mindfulness to make choices from a place of clarity and not fear."
Lauren Farenga, owner of Lotus Flow
Lotus Flow Yoga Studio has made a slight lateral move in Capitol Square, to 191 Mass. Ave. , from 185.
Lauren Farenga, whose studio opened in November 2018, reopened in her new space Aug. 17.
Asked about the move, she responded: “Part of yoga philosophy is understanding that change is the only constant in life, and we must learn mindfulness skills to move through life’s changes.
“This year has certainly thrown many changes our way, and we are adapting and going with the flow.”
She wrote that Lotus Yoga is “more than a place to exercise; it is a community, and the new space will allow is to keep the community thriving.”
She called the new space, formerly that of retailer Muses' Window, “in many ways is better suited to our business needs, and is well suited for current pandemic specific needs.”
Pandemic improvements
For instance, it has windows that open, for better ventilation, and a sink on the studio level for hand-washing.
“The space has all the same vibes, colors, mural and plants as the old studio including our downstairs yoga lounge,” she wrote.
Lotus Flow offers classes livestream online. “We believe in giving people options to choose how they want to feel in their yoga practice, and that includes the space you practice in,” she wrote. “So we are offering options so every yogi can meet themselves where they are in the moment.”
After businesses closed in March because of the pandemic, she noted that she transitioned online immediately and have been doing live-streaming classes since. The business did receive federal Covid-19 funding.
Outdoor classes
Other changes: “At that time we also offered the Yogi Support Circle, a group for the yoga community as we all rode the waves of change and adapted to the pandemic.”
In June, she added outdoor classes as ways to offer stress relief to our community during this hard time.
As of Aug. 17, Lotus Flow offers two in-studio classes per week in small groups.
“We have always taken it on as our mission to offer stress and anxiety relief through yoga and meditation,” she wrote, “and it feels more important now, during a pandemic.
“It hasn’t been easy for us at Lotus either, and we have relied on our yoga skills and mindfulness to make choices from a place of clarity and not fear.
“The move is one of those decisions; by moving we can clearly move toward our goals as a business and as a yoga community. We have seen some of our teachers and students leave due to their changing circumstances as a consequence of the pandemic, but together we will make it through this difficult time.”
Following the move, Lotus Flow emphasizes small-group and one-on-one services to help clients reach personal wellness goals. Also offered is distance Reiki, an energy-healing treatment that can be done from afar.
Hours vary according to the day and classes offered. Generally, the studio is open 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with classes and private wellness sessions daily.
Online live-streaming classes are daily; outdoor yoga classes Sunday, Monday and Thursday; distance Reiki treatments by appointment; wellness services by appointment and small group in-studio classes on Monday and Thursday evenings.
