HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball and track teams will compete in the Southland Conference Championships, the Lion baseball team closes out its regular season road slate and SLU senior quarterback Cole Kelley will participate in the Walter Payton Award announcement during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The Southland Conference Softball Tournament is set for Tuesday through Friday at North Oak Park on the Southeastern campus. The fifth-seeded Lady Lions (27-21) will open tournament play with a single-elimination game versus No. 8 seed Abilene Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The winner advances to the double-elimination portion of the bracket, starting with a 6:30 p.m. game on Tuesday versus fourth-seeded Northwestern State. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Southeastern men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Friday through Sunday in Houston, Texas.
The SLU baseball team (28-17, 20-12 Southland) will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a four-game Southland series. The series opens with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday, continues with a noon doubleheader on Saturday and concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup.
On The Air
Kelley is one of three finalists for the Walter Payton Award, awarded to the best offensive player in FCS, and the winner will be announced on Saturday. The selection show will air on Bally Sports (Formerly Fox Sports) Regional Networks on Saturday. Air time is still to be announced.
The entire Southland Conference Softball Tournament will air on ESPN+. All of this week's baseball games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9).
The latest edition of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Matt Riser, presented by Blackened Brew is set for Monday. Airing every Monday during the baseball season at 12 p.m. on KSLU 90.9 FM, the one-hour show airs live from Blackened Brew in downtown Hammond.
