HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team hosts the 2021 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament presented by GeoSurfaces, while members of the SLU track and field team compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The Lion baseball team (30-22) is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will face Northwestern State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to close out the first day of action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The tournament runs through Saturday with the winner earning the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. SLU is looking for its sixth NCAA regional appearance, joining the 1992, 1994, 2014, 2016 and 2017 teams.
Eight members of the Southeastern track and field teams will travel to the NCAA East Preliminary Round, which runs Wednesday through Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida. The top 12 finishers in each event in the preliminary round will advance to next month's NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
On Wednesday, Franck DiSanza competes in the men's javelin at 12:30 p.m., before D.J. Ruffin represents the Lions in the long jump at 2 p.m. Both Jonathon Sawyer and James Benson II will run in the 400 meters at 6:25 p.m.
Ashley Davis is the lone Southeastern participant on Thursday, taking part in the shot put at 5 p.m. On Friday, Tommy Nedow competes in the discus at 12:30 p.m., before Sawyer, Benson II, Ruffin and Donovan Storr runs in the men's 4x400 relay at 8:15 p.m.
Closing out the Southeastern contingent's action will be Kristian Jackson, who competes in the women's discus at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

All of this week's Southland Conference Baseball Tournament, presented by GeoSurfaces, games will be televised on ESPN+ and all of SLU's games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9).
