A new business in LaGrange might be the perfect place for a date night, a company bonding experience, or just to work out a little frustration.

Timberwolf Axe Throwing plans to open a location in LaGrange in mid-May, giving many in the local area their first opportunity to jump into a growing trend. Participants stand 12 feet back in a lane and throw axes at a target to compile points — the closer to the bullseye the better.

Franchisees Justin Daniel and Valerie Daniel grew up in LaGrange and thought the city would make a great location for Timberwolf’s second location. Franchise owner Nathan Kistler opened up the first location in Carrolton in February.

“You come and pick an ax up and throw it at a bullseye,” Justin Daniel said. “It’s not only fun but a little therapeutic. It’s great for releasing frustration, anxiety and let’s face it, in this day and time who couldn’t use some of that in their life.”

Daniel said there’s not anything like it in LaGrange, and he noted the lack of other indoor recreation activities in the area.

“If you are looking for something different, there’s nothing like this in LaGrange,” Daniel said. “We don’t have a bowling alley or anything like that here anymore … Especially right now with the pandemic, people have been stuck in their homes for so long. Everybody is starting to get back out. People are looking for something to do, a reason to get out of the house.”

Timberwolf will feature 13 lanes. Seven will be single lanes, which are perfect for couples or up to around five people. The other six lanes will be part of three double lanes, which are better for larger groups.

It costs $25 per hour, per person for anyone 15 and up. It’s $15 for ages 10 to 14, and anyone 9 and younger is free. First responders and military veterans get a discount and pay $20.

Timberwolf will have online reservations for lanes, which is recommended to ensure that a lane is available when you go. However, walk-ins are also welcomed, but there could be a wait. Thursdays will be the location’s college night, so with a student-ID, the cost will be $15. Without a student ID, the cost is $25. On Thursday nights, no reservations are allowed.

Daniel said anyone 10 and up can throw real axes. Children under 10 can participate by throwing kid-safe soft axes that stick to a bullseye.

Timberwolf will be an alcohol-free establishment, but Daniel said they will sell snacks, drinks and water and will give away free popcorn.

With COVID-19 numbers in better shape than they’ve been in months, Daniel said he feels like this is the perfect time to open up this business venture.

“I feel like the timing is perfect coming out of this pandemic,” Daniel said. “And let’s face it, everyone has got pandemic fatigue. We’re all tired of having to wear masks and can’t go sit in a restaurant, have to do drive-thru or delivery. Everybody is looking for life to get back to normal.”

Timberwolf will not require masks, but Daniel said he is working on getting an air purification system installed at the location.

Timberwolf will be open Tuesday-Saturday. On Tuesday-Thursday, Daniel said the location’s hours will be 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Fridays they’ll be open 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, Timberwolf will be open from noon to 11 p.m.

Daniel said they are looking for quarterly lane sponsors, who get a banner above the bullseye on their lane. Lane sponsors can bring up to 12 people once per quarter for a two-hour ax-throwing session.

Timberwolf Axe Throwing will be located at 1300 Lafayette Parkway Suite F1.
