RED BLUFF — Convicted rapist Cameron Hooker was set to stand trial Tuesday to determine whether he would be classified as a sexually violent predator, but instead the trial date was pushed back to May 25.

“The case was put over to May 25 for the setting of the probable cause hearing, in order to give the parties additional time to review the case,” said Tehama County District Attorney Matt Rogers.

The outcome could determine whether Hooker would be eligible for parole.

“There is a chance that he could be paroled, but that would only happen if he were found not to be a sexually violent predator, which would require a judge or jury to believe that he does not meet the definition of an SVP,” Rogers said. “If for some reason a judge or jury found him not to be an SVP, he would likely be paroled to Tehama County where he would be supervised on parole and be required to register as a sex offender.”

Rogers said with the registration, Hooker would be subject to the same requirements as all other registered sex offenders.

In 1985, Hooker was convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping and keeping Colleen Stan captive as a sex slave for more than seven years. After the conviction, Hooker was sentenced to 104 years in prison.

Originally, the case was to be tried in Tehama County but was moved to San Mateo County because it was the closest court that handles sexually violent predator determinations.
