The first trailer for the movie about Al Capone, starring Tom Hardy, has finally been released.
Director Josh Trank has dropped the footage out of nowhere and has revealed the film has changed its title from Fonzo to Capone.
The trailer gives us a good look at Tom Hardy as the infamous gangster, who never seems to be short of a cigar.
A chilling line is delivered in the opening sequence: "What's the difference between Adolf Hitler and Al Capone? Hitler is dead."
The movie is set to focus on Capone's final years. After finally winding up in prison for tax evasion, including a stint in Alcatraz, Capone became increasingly disorientated and tormented by his past due to his suffering from untreated syphilis
By the time of his release, the notorious gangster was a withered figure and lived the last years of his life quietly in his mansion before dying of a heart attack in 1947. He was only 48.
With a life story like that, Capone isn't exactly going to be cheery stuff, but if anyone can accurately capture the darkness of the man's final years, you'd suspect it'd be Hardy.
The actor certainly hasn't shied away from playing hard, brutish men like Charles Bronson, Bane and the Kray twins.
The official synopsis for the movie was released in 2018, which read: "Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Al Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore."
"At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Al's mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life."
Capone has been in development for a few years now and will be directed by Josh Trank, the guy responsible for the 2012 sci-fi film Chronicle and the Marvel superhero reboot of Fantastic Four.
The film will have a video-on-demand premiere on May 12 through Redbox Entertainment, where you'll be able to rent it for 48-hours. It's hoped to have a theatrical release soon.
