Marvel's Robert Downey Jr unveils first look at his new show - digitalspy.com

Robert Downey Jr has unveiled the first look at HBO's upcoming Perry Mason limited series.

The Avengers: Endgame actor and his wife Susan Downey are executive producing the show, which stars Matthew Rhys in the title role. A full trailer arrived on Thursday.

Sharing a sneak peek on Instagram earlier this week, Downey wrote: "I know it's Tuesday because I'm still wearing my Sunday pajamas. I ALSO know a way to get an exclusive sneak peek at PERRY MASON. All my love, DSB (double-scrub Bob)."

The original Perry Mason TV show starred Raymond Burr and ran from 1957 to 1966. It was based on the series of detective novels written by Erle Stanley Gardner which were first published in the 1930s.

The new series will be set in Los Angeles in 1932, with the synopsis reading: "While the rest of the country struggles through the Great Depression, the City of Angels has oil, the Olympic Games, talking pictures, evangelical fervor, and a child kidnapping gone very, very wrong."

Alongside Rhys, it will also star John Lithgow, Tatiana Maslany, Chris Chalk, Juliet Rylance, Nate Corddry, Veronica Falcon, Shea Whigham, Andrew Howard, Jefferson Mays, Robert Patrick, Stephen Root, Gayle Rankin, Lili Taylor and Justin Kirk.

The Perry Mason TV reboot has been in the works since 2016, with RDJ himself previously tipped for the title role.

Before that, the actor had been trying to bring the detective to the big screen since 2011.

Perry Mason is set to arrive on HBO in the US on June 21 at 9pm ET on HBO. A UK broadcaster is yet to be announced.

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download, and is available on Disney+.
