Peter Andre's wife Emily MacDonagh feels 'anxious' working for NHS during coronavirus - Daily Mail

Peter Andre's wife Emily MacDonagh feels 'overwhelmed' by kindness shown to NHS during 'anxious' time working on frontline amid coronavirus

Peter Andre's wife Emily MacDonagh admits working for the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic is a 'very anxious' time.

The 30-year-old medical professional has continued to work during the crisis, leaving husband Pete at home to look after their two children; daughter Amelia, six, and son Theo, three.

Sharing her experience of being on the frontline, Emily says she feels 'lucky' she can rely on Pete to take over at home and is overwhelmed by the 'kindness' people have shown to healthcare staff in recent weeks.

Writing for The Sun, Emily explained how she leaves the house at 7.30am every day, without seeing the kids, to work long shifts due to hospitals seeing increasing numbers of unwell patients and NHS staff falling sick.

'I think I speak for many NHS and key workers when I say it's a very anxious time at the moment,' Emily said.

Highlighting that her anxiety increases when she thinks about the risks her still working for the NHS could have on her and her family, Emily says her job has been made easier by the 'overwhelming' kindness people have shown medical staff.

'The number of kind gestures I have seen is overwhelming. People bringing in food for hospital workers, offering them places to stay or simply just words of encouragement,' she added.

I think I speak for many NHS and key workers when I say it’s a very anxious time at the moment.

The number of kind gestures I have seen is overwhelming — people bringing in food for hospital workers, offering them places to stay or simply just words of encouragement.

Long days at work can mean that Emily can go a number of days in the week without seeing her children.

While she works, husband Pete is at home looking after their brood, as well as his two children he shared with ex-wife Katie Price, Junior, 14, and Princess, 12, who are currently staying with him during lockdown.

Emily said: 'I'm very lucky to have such a hands-on husband to help me out at home. Pete is brilliant.'

Although, she did joke that when it comes to running around after the kids, Pete's efforts aren't always up to her 'standards' and while she may have found a couple of black socks in the family's white washing, she is 'very thankful' for his 'hard work'.

It comes after Pete was recently seen gushing about wife Emily and how proud he is of her continuing to work through the coronavirus crisis.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the Mysterious Girl singer, who was seen clapping for the NHS on his doorstep with Junior and Princess recently, said: 'Emily's my hero. I'm so proud of her.'

Proud: Peter has praised wife Emily, who has been a doctor for five years, for continuing to work for the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic and called her his 'hero'

Emily, who has been working as a doctor for five years, has been minimising her chances of passing coronavirus symptoms by changing clothes at work and showering the minute she gets in from her shift.

Pete explained that he and wife Emily are trying to be 'sensible' and practice social distancing at home (the recommended government guideline is to stay two metres apart).

Members of one household don't need to social distance but due to Emily's work on the NHS frontline the couple are trying to be 'sensible'.

Pete added he's 'grateful' that he can still sleep next to her as their bed is 'two metres wide'.

He said: 'We're trying to keep our distance when she comes in from work, and be as sensible as possible. But we are still husband and wife, so that is difficult.

'Thank God our bed is two metres wide so it is perfect for social distancing.'

Peter added that they have avoided intimate affection for a few days and are instead 'kissing and hugging through windows'.

Although, he and Emily pointed out that they're not going too 'overboard' and she is still hugging the children, with Emily explaining that she doesn't have to totally avoid the kids unless she starts showing symptoms.

In the UK, there are currently over 120,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with recent reports confirming the number of deaths across the country has now surpassed 16,000.

Sensible: The singer has said he and Emily try to practice social distancing when she's at home, but they're not going 'too overboard' as she currently doesn't have any symptoms of COVID-19
