Popular musician Travis Scott has found a new way to keep his followers entertained - performing live to over 12 million people on the video game Fortnite.
The music industry is one of a number of sectors suffering as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lockdowns may start to ease across the globe as the world starts to recover but it is unlikely that arenas will be allowed to pack crowds into seats anytime soon.
Music has always managed to find a way of excelling through hard times, notably with events such as Live Aid raising millions in order to support a cause, but this is a much more contemporary idea.
Taking to the free-to-play game Fortnite, Scott performed a record-breaking set to 12.3 million online viewers.
Developer Epic Games described the feat as an 'all-time record' for the battle royale, shattering Marshmello’s previous record of 10.7 million digital spectators.
It’s unknown what exactly triggered the vast numbers to ‘tune in’ for the concert but the lockdown and music fans desperate for a fix are likely factors.
He performed a range of songs to the ‘onlooking’ audience including ‘highest in the room’ and ‘sicko mode’.
Official figures say that 12.3 million took part online on the battle royale game but thousands more watched live as it was streamed live on YouTube and Twitch.
Plenty more will be able to catch up with videos shared online but can experience it live as Scott is due to provide more performances over the next few days.
Further shows are set to come over the next few days with a full schedule available on Epic’s website - the final performances are this Saturday (April 25th).
Epic say that “doors” open around 30 minutes before the set gets underway, so jump in and head to the stage north of Sweaty Stands for an entertaining performance.
