Jeremy Clarkson tells Meghan Markle to 'get a grip' as he says Duchess of Sussex should toughen up - Daily Mail

Jeremy Clarkson tells Meghan Markle to 'get a grip' as he says 'crying' Duchess of Sussex should toughen up

  • Jeremy Clarkson criticised Meghan Markle and said everyone needs to get a grip
  • Comes weeks after Meghan and Harry announced they were moving to Canada
  • Meghan previously claimed it 'wasn't enough to survive, you have to thrive'

Jeremy Clarkson has told the Duchess of Sussex to ‘get a grip’ and suggested the former Hollywood actress should ‘toughen up’.

The 59-year-old said people needed to reintroduce such phrases into everyday life and added that even Meghan Markle should take on his advice.

It comes just weeks after the Duke and Duchess announced they would step back from Royal duties and split their time between the UK and Canada.

Months before, the Duchess had emotionally told an ITV documentary that no one had really ‘asked her if she was ok’ amid reports of a rift with William and Kate.

Clarkson currently resides on a 1,000-acre estate in Oxfordshire and now spends most of his time working on the farm.

Speaking to GQ after winning the GQ Car Awards Lifetime Achievement award, he hinted that it was ok to be emotional but championed the stiff British upper lip.

Asked if he cries often he responded: ‘Everybody cries. Everybody cried when Princess Diana was buried.

‘But I mean, as a general rule, you’ve got to get a grip. I think the expression "get a grip" needs to come back into the lexicon as soon as possible. Everybody needs to get a grip. Meghan Markle... just get a grip.’

At the beginning of the year it was announced that Meghan and her husband Prince Harry, along with their son Archie would split their time between north America and Canada.

The comments from Clarkson may come as surprise to many as the former Top Gear star had previously defended the couple, claiming the public shouldn’t blame them for wanting to walk away from their duties.

He previously said people were ‘allowed to resign from jobs they didn’t like’, and that royal life may have come to a shock to Meghan, who had become accustomed to a glamorous Hollywood lifestyle.

During the GQ interview, Clarkson was asked if he ‘had a grip’ on turning 60 this year.

Opening up, he said he found it ‘quite depressing’. He said his father had died when he was just 60-years-old and that he felt he had been ‘cheated’ out of life.

He also added that he didn’t have any regrets, but highlighted that everyone makes mistakes.

Clarkson's comments come after Scotland Yard officers guarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said they are treated 'like skivvies' and forced to do 'menial tasks' like picking up takeaways and groceries, it has been claimed.

Highly-trained protection staff have also allegedly been seen buying food from an organic delicatessen, a favourite of Meghan's, and picking up coffees from fast food outlet Tim Hortons.

A team of 15 guards has been flown to guard the couple and their nine-month-old son Archie at their secluded Canadian bolthole, after they stood back from royal duties.

The Duke and Duchess's security is estimated to cost taxpayers in Canada and the UK between £3 million and £6 million a year, as staff work round the clock two weeks at a time.
