Royal heartbreak: Kate shares her favourite photo of Princess Charlotte - Express

The picture shows Charlotte delicately smelling a bluebell on a bright spring day while exploring the grounds of Anmer Hall, the Cambridge’s country house in Norfolk. During an interview, Kate, a keen photographer, said the snap was her favourite, as the image demonstrates the “physical and mental wellbeing” that children enjoy when immersed in their natural surroundings.

The revelation came during a child and motherhood centred podcast hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, “Happy Mum, Happy Baby”.

Of the photo, Kate said: “As children, we spent a lot of time outside and it's something I'm really passionate about.

“I think it's so great for physical and mental wellbeing and laying those foundations.

“I’ve got this one photo of Charlotte smelling a bluebell, and it's moments like that which mean so much to me as a parent.

“I try everyday to put moments like that in even if I don't have time.

“But, that in an ideal world is what I would like to do.”

With her hair tied back in a ponytail, Charlotte sports a check Amaia Kids skirt under a grey cashmere cardigan.

The photo, only recently released, is thought to have been taken to mark the Princess’s fourth birthday last May.

She said that she felt “really passionate” about children spending time outside.

She added: “As children we spent an awful lot of time outside and it's something I'm really passionate about.

“It's so great for physical well-being and also mental well-being and actually really laying those foundations.

“It's also a really great environment to spend time building those quality relationships without the distractions.”

The podcast featured many admissions from the Duchess about her personal life and worries about being a parent in the modern world.

She revealed that Prince William used a doll to practice before putting Prince George in a car seat for his son’s first appearance outside St Mary’s Hospital.

The Duke of Cambridge won praise for his effortless attempt at putting the young prince into the car.

Yet, it was not first time luck, as Kate disclosed they had practiced countless times in order to nail the daunting task.

Given it was a global moment, both televised and heavily photographed, Kate told of how they wanted to get it right and without a hitch.

Ms Fletcher said William had done a very good job of putting his son safely on the car’s backseat.

Kate replied: “But he probably didn't think so at the time, we were like ‘What do we do - in a swaddle?’

“‘How's this supposed to work?’”
