Speaking to PEOPLE, the friend stated that their “decision [to leave] had been weighing on them for a long time, and they are relieved to have it done”. The royal couple decided to take a step back from senior royal duties, in a shock announcement last month.

After talks with Queen Elizabeth II, the couple are not allowed to use their His/Her Royal Highness titles anymore.

Harry said: “It brings me great sadness that it has come to this.”

The palace insider continued: “The military was a part of his upbringing and his life. He brought a lot to those guys and understood things.

“It is sad.”

The couple had allegedly negotiated “almost everything they asked for”.

While concerning the loss of the titles, the insider: “Harry doesn’t care about the titles.

“It doesn’t interest him; it never has.”

“They are enjoying living a quiet life.

“They go for long walks, they do yoga, and Meghan cooks.

“They are real homebodies who love to chill out with Archie and the dogs.”

The couple are reportedly trying to form their own charity.

“These plans take a lot of time, and staff are putting in the legwork to prepare it properly and make sure it delivers on the expectations and the couple’s ambitions,” the source added.

Harry has already collaborated with Oprah Winfrey for an upcoming mental-health project for AppleTV.

“He really cares about his work. He’s a good guy.”

The source continued: “It’s full throttle for them right now.

“They have a lot happening in 2020, and it will be really exciting to see.”

It comes as the royal couple are reported to have face some backlash from their move to Canada.

Nanos Research found a study that 77 percent of Canadians said they would not want to pay for Harry and Meghan’s security.

The couple have resided in Canada since before and even spent time there over Christmas.

However they are now they are facing a backlash over who should pay for the family’s security measures.

Over three quarters of Canadians felt they should not foot the bill for the couple’s £7.6million a year security arrangements - this is because they are not in Canada as representatives of the Queen.
