The Queen will use a televised message to urge the people of the UK to pull together in the face of the coronavirus pandemic currently gripping the nation.
A special message from Her Majesty will be broadcast tonight (April 5) at 8pm during which she will also pay tribute to NHS staff, care workers and other people carrying out essential roles.
The Queen will say in her address to the country and Commonwealth: “I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.
The NHS says you must not leave your home if have the following symptoms
- A high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
If you have these symptoms, The NHS says: "To protect others, do not go to places like a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Stay at home.
"Use the 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do."
“And those who come after us will say that the Britons of this generation were as strong as any.
“That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet, good-humoured resolve and of fellow feeling still characterise this country.”
The address comes after another 708 coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed on Saturday, including two more the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
This takes the overall COVID-19 death tally at the hospital to 11 and the whole of Devon to 35 following 11 deaths Plymouth's Derriford Hospital and 13 at Torbay Hospital, while in Cornwall a total of 21 patients diagnosed with the virus have died.
According to Public Health England, there have been 41,903 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 4,313 deaths in the UK.
