Disney has announced a slew of new release dates for major upcoming blockbusters in hopes that the coronavirus pandemic will be subsiding in the not-so-distant future.
The House of Mouse was forced to basically shelve all of its upcoming releases when stay-at-home orders were issued globally last month, though the studio has put a strategy in place to move forward.
Mulan was originally supposed to be opening on March 27, 2020, but is now being set for July 24, 2020. This date will bump Dwayne Johnson's Jungle Cruise all the way to July 31, 2021 to make room.
Indiana Jones 5 continues to be snake-bit (which we're certain would terrify Indy), as it moves from an already-rescheduled July 9, 2021 to over one year later to July 29, 2022.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has completely shifted because of the pandemic, as well. Black Widow will now be released on November 6, 2020 in a spot previously occupied by The Eternals.
This means The Eternals is postponed to February 12, 2021, setting off a series of delays where Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings now comes out on May 7, 2021, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness slides to November 5, 2021 and Thor: Love and Thunder hits cinemas on February 18, 2022.
Black Panther 2 is currently still scheduled to come out on May 8, 2022, but Captain Marvel 2 moves forward two weeks to July 8, 2022 in order to make room for Indiana Jones 5. That's it for Marvel — phew!
One unfortunate casualty in all of these moving release dates is Sir Kenneth Branagh's long-awaited adaptation of Artemis Fowl, which is now being released straight to Disney+ rather than hitting cinemas.
A few blockbusters have yet to be rescheduled, including the forever-doomed X-Men spin-off New Mutants and horror movie Antlers.
