Actor Tom Lester has died aged 81 after suffering complications from Parkinson’s disease.
The Green Acres star passed away in the Nashville home of his fiancée and long-term caregiver Jackie Peters, according to TMZ.
The actor famously played the role of farmhand Ed Dawson in hit sitcom Green Acres from 1965 to 1971.
He actually began his career in the mid-60s after moving from Mississippi to Hollywood, landing roles in several plays.
Then he struck gold after beating out 400 other actors for his role in Green Acres because, according to reports, he was the only one who could actually milk a cow in real life.
After starring on the show for all six seasons, he also had a part on the sister series Petticoat Junction.
He also made a few guest appearances on The Beverly Hillbillies in crossover episodes.

Tom went on to have a role in Knight Rider back in the 80s while his last acting credit was for 2014’s Campin’ Buddies.
Mississippi’s Laurel Leader-Call reports that the actor was a conservationist and spent many enjoyable years on his farm in Jasper County, where, in 1997, he was the recipient of Mississippi’s Wildlife Farmer of the Year award.
He is survived by his brother Michael T. Lester, a retiree of Corporate Energy in Hattiesburg; two great-nieces, Haleigh and McKenzie; one great-great-niece, Scarlett; and one great-great-nephew, Wes.
