After the Duke and Duchess graduated from St Andrews University, it seemed only a matter of time before William would propose to his intended wife. Unfortunately, the path of true love never runs smooth and the relationship began to hit the rocks, as William appeared to have second thoughts. By December 2006, the young couple were not spending much time together, before William decided to pull out of a holiday he had planned to spend with Kate and her family.
Relations between the two cooled even further the following year, as Prince William was stationed several hours away from London and saw even less of his future wife.
The inevitable then happened, as the couple split up to go their separate ways.
By all accounts, Kate took the break-up of her relationship badly and fled to Ireland on a short holiday to try and get over her disappointment.
On returning to London, Pippa Middleton moved in with Kate in her Chelsea flat and helped her elder sister get her spirits back.
The two close sisters hit the town and were often photographed partying out and about in London, with Kate regularly snapped wearing risqué outfits that she never wore while dating William.
The photos of the two party-going sisters seemed to have an effect on the love torn prince, as by July 2007 he was back together with Kate.
Marriage didn’t come immediately, as William took his time to mull things over and didn’t propose for almost another three years.
The happy couple eventually wed in 2011 in a stunning ceremony that millions of people around the world tuned into watch.

Pippa and Kate are said to enjoy a very close relationship, but it wasn’t always like that, according to royal experts.
Royal reporter Emma Cowing claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge was jealous of her younger sister before she married William.
Writing in the Scotsman, Ms Cowing observed: “There is, allegedly, some jealousy between the pair. Kate was always quite jealous of Pippa.
“I sensed that she feared being eclipsed by her because Pippa has more natural effervescence, she is socially much more at ease and was always popular with everyone, especially (brother) James’ friends.”

Alleged jealousies between the two sisters did not prevent Kate from inviting her younger sibling to be a bridesmaid at her wedding to William.
But unwittingly Pippa almost stole the limelight on Kate’s big day out, after a paparazzi photographed her from behind.
The photo turned the younger sister into an overnight sensation.
However, according to Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, no lasting damage to the sisters’ relationship was done.
Mr Morton wrote: “Just as William and Harry are very competitive, Catherine and Pippa are very competitive.
“The day was Catherine’s day and Pippa played a significant walk-on part, that was it.
“I don’t think she stole the show. Pippa had an exotic walk-on part.”
The two sisters nowadays enjoy a lot in common.
Like her elder and more famous sister, Ms Middleton is happily married with a young family.
