Kate has gone through a period where she felt a little intimidated by Meghan and her bold and glamorous fashion choices, it has been claimed. This pushed the Duchess of Cambridge to modify her wardrobe and make-up choices, they continued.
The insider told The Sun's Fabulous: "She most definitely went through a phase two years ago where she seemed slightly intimidated by Meghan.
"She was afraid of comparisons being drawn between them and that Meghan was the one who looked glamorous and popular for a while."
However, the decision of Meghan and Harry to step down as senior royals made Kate returning to her original style and favourite high street pieces of clothing, the insider continued.

The Duchess of Cambridge's last public engagement took place on March 19, when she and Prince William visited the NHS 111 call centre in Croydon.
On that occasion, Kate wore a blush high street suit from Marks & Spencer.

She was seen wearing the same outfit also in a picture shared by Kensington Palace last week.
The picture shows Kate sitting at her desk while having a phone conversation.
The caption to the picture, published both on Instagram and Twitter, read: "Self-isolation and social distancing can pose huge challenges to our mental health.
"In recent weeks The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organisations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time.
"Last week The Duke spoke to @mindcharity CEO Paul Farmer, and The Duchess spoke to Catherine Roche, CEO of @_place2be."
Meghan and Prince Harry officially stepped down as senior royals on March 31.
The couple first announced their intention to carve out a new progressive role for themselves in January.
Their desire was to be able to be part-time working royals, which would have allowed them to carry out royal duties while also considering private lucrative projects.
However, the Queen and her senior aides ruled against this possibility.
In mid-January, Meghan and Harry agreed on renouncing to their royal duties and the use of their HRH styles.
The couple is now self-isolating with their child Archie Harrison in California.
Meghan and Harry's last public message to their fans was shared on Instagram on Monday.
In their post, signed off simply as "Harry & Meghan", the couple said they would use the next few weeks to focus on their family, work behind the scene and understand how to help during the current pandemic.
