Linda Lusardi ‘wanted to die’ after her coronavirus ordeal became too much.

The 61-year-old and husband Sam Kane tested positive for the condition last month, and were left fighting for their lives in hospital when symptoms worsened.

They are now well on the road to recovery, and back at their north London home with their family.

But, speaking about what she went through, the Dancing On Ice star admitted there were times she felt so bad that she prayed for death.

‘It got to the stage where both of us were praying we wouldn’t wake up because it was so bad,’ she said.

Sam, 51, explained the illness – which he believes he contracted during a business meeting – was like the devil was ‘strangling’ him and ‘laughing’ in his face.

‘We just looked at each other and said, “Look, we can’t take this anymore”,’ the 51-year-old continued. ‘We just thought that if we don’t wake up, it’s not the end of the world.’

Linda, who shares children Lucy and Jack with her husband, said the doctor couldn’t guarantee that she would survive Covid-19 as he was unsure of what they were dealing with.

Recalling the moment, she revealed she ‘burst into tears’, telling the Sun: ‘I was lying on the bed and had my arm over my head and thought, “I’m going, this is it”.

‘I could feel myself drifting away.’

Linda managed to regain some of her strength after a brief meeting with Sam in hospital, which gave her the belief to fight for her life.

She was released from hospital on Monday, with the dad-of-two confirming the news on social media.

Giving an update on her health, he told worried fans: ‘It’s with absolute joy that I can tell you my girl is finally at home.

‘She’s on the sofa with a nice cup of tea and Dexter on her lap. She’s doing great.

‘She’s battled through this hell and with God’s grace has thankfully come out other side. The miracle workers at the hospital have been just incredible.

‘Words will never do justice for how we feel and our gratitude to them. It’s thanks to them that we now have our family back together.’
