Princess Anne 'could teach' Meghan Markle and Harry how to ‘save the planet' - Express

In a new column for the Daily Mail, Jan Moir commented on the differences between Princess Anne and the modern royals such as Meghan and Harry. Her article comes after Vanity Fair released an exclusive interview with the Queen’s daughter that revealed she has some scepticism into how the new generation of the monarchy present themselves.

Princess Anne remarked on how royals such as Meghan and Harry probably don’t understand her philanthropic legacy.

She told Vanity Fair: "I don't think this younger generation probably understands what I was doing in the past and it's often true, isn't it?"

She added: “You don't necessarily look at the previous generation and say, 'Oh, you did that?' Or, 'You went there?'

“Nowadays, they're much more looking for, 'Oh let's do it a new way.'

"And I'm already at the stage, 'Please do not reinvent that particular wheel.

“We've been there, done that. Some of these things don't work. You may need to go back to basics."

Now Ms Moir has replied to Anne’s statement by suggesting that the Princess has a “lot” she could teach the Sussexes.

She wrote: “Saving the planet, recycling and thrift? There is a lot she could teach the Sussexes.”

Princess Anne has also been involved in years and years of charity work often behind the scenes.

Ms Moir said: “She chooses her friends wisely, keeps her own counsel and — most importantly of all — wants to help rather than be seen to be helping.

The columnist also revealed that the most “revealing’ sign of royal disapproval toward the former Sussex couple, was the “expression” worn on Kate Middleton’s face at Westminster Abbey last month.

The latest interview with Princess Anne shows that there is some discontent between the firm and the Sussexes.

It comes as Meghan and Harry’s plans to visit the UK later in the year for charitable events have been cancelled, meaning they will not see British family members any time soon.

An inside revealed: “I think the hope in royal circles had been that the Sussexes would return to the UK in May, either before or after their attendance at the Invictus Games in The Netherlands next month, and they were also due to attend the queen’s birthday parade, Trooping the Colour on June 13.

“But with both those events now cancelled, and Harry and Meghan holed in California where they are likely to be social distancing for the next few weeks.

"Archie is set to celebrate his first birthday with only his parents."

The Sussexes are said to be hoping to reunite with the royal family when the virus is well behind everyone.
