The Queen, 93, who is social distancing at Windsor Castle, spoke about light overcoming darkness in her pre-recorded speech amid the coronavirus crisis. The message prompted praise from royal fans on social media, who described it as “beautiful” and “uplifting”.
A Twitter user said: “The Queen’s voice is strong and reassuring. I thank her and god bless her. She is an inspiration.”
Another commented: “Thank you Your Majesty for this message of hope during this time of darkness. As always, your calm, steady voice is a beacon of hope for so many of us.”
A third said: “Thank you for the wonderful, uplifting Easter message. God Save Our Queen.”
An Instagram user posted: “Thank you for your beautiful, calming words Your Majesty! A very Happy Easter to you and your family!”
A fifth wrote: “Thank you Queen Elizabeth for these beautiful words. Happy Easter to you and your family.”
One more added: “A beautiful message from a beautiful lady.”
The Queen’s audio message was recorded on Good Friday at Windsor Castle.
"In church, one light would pass to another, spreading slowly and then more rapidly as more candles are lit.
"It's a way of showing how the good news of Christ's resurrection has been passed on from the first Easter by every generation until now.”
The head of state highlighted the importance of maintaining the lockdown during the Bank Holiday weekend, saying "by keeping apart we keep others safe".
She added: "But Easter isn't cancelled; indeed, we need Easter as much as ever.
“The discovery of the risen Christ on the first Easter Day gave his followers new hope and fresh purpose, and we can all take heart from this. We know that coronavirus will not overcome us.
"As dark as death can be - particularly for those suffering with grief - light and life are greater.
"May the living flame of the Easter hope be a steady guide as we face the future.
"I wish everyone of all faiths and denominations a blessed Easter.”
The Queen’s Easter message comes after her televised address to the nation last Sunday when she urged the country to remain united to overcome coronavirus.
Echoing the words of Dame Vera Lynn's Second World War song, she said: "We will meet again."
