Ricky Gervais has revealed his fans now approach him to talk about grief rather than ask him to do the David Brent dance.
The writer and comedian, 58, is promoting the second series of his Netflix show After Life, which shows his character going through the grieving process.
In an interview with the Radio Times, the star said mourning is a taboo subject but he believes his show has helped opened the conversation about it.

He said about the show: 'People say to me, "I lost my brother three weeks before, and I was worried about watching it, but I absolutely loved it, it really helps, so thank you."'
'It's a proper human connection. I've never had that before, an emotional connection.'
Gervais also discussed why he targets his fellow celebrities at award shows such as the Golden Globes.

The comedian is worth a reported £110 million but often takes shots at the wealth and privilege of his peers.
He explained: 'I do it by being on the side of the people watching at home who aren't winning awards. I come out with a beer, I don't want to be there, I don't like these people.
'It would be nauseating for me to go, "Hey, George, thanks for letting me use your villa." "Hey, Brad, are we having a drink later?"'

Gervais said he adopts a character when performing and this allows him to employ jokes from different viewpoints.

He also revealed he does get nervous when hosting award shows but only if a joke doesn't land, not if he might offend a celebrity.
The Office star revealed the second series of his hit Netflix show will depict his character Tony Johnson continuing the grieving process after the death of his wife.
Gervais said he already wants a third series for the popular show.
And it's no surprise considering the funnyman reportedly boosted his production companies' earnings by £2 million last year and managed to give himself a £1.5 million windfall.
