The emergency back-up would also see studio audiences scrapped.
BBC chiefs acknowledge the plans would increase the likelihood of the infamous Strictly curse — which sees dance partners fall for each other — striking yet again.
But they feel it would be worth doing to ensure the upcoming series survives if restrictions on group gatherings are not lifted.
A TV insider said: “Strictly is so up in the air at the moment — but it is too important to the Beeb for plans not to be put in place.

“The stars would be put into isolation with their pro partners over a week before the start of the series to avoid any risks of illness.
“In theory they would stay in the same place and then train together daily with minimal contact with the outside world.
“It’s an extreme idea but it’s one of many that’s being bandied around in meetings at the moment.
“The Strictly curse is something bosses want to avoid every year because they want it to remain a family show — but it’s a risk they’re willing to take.
“Strictly is the biggest show on the BBC and they want to do everything to keep it going.”
The source said the show — won last year by ex-Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse — could be rested. But they added: “That’s the last thing anyone wants if it’s not completely unavoidable.”
The Sun Says
A SHOW infamous for relationship-wrecking affairs between its dance partners.
And a plan to lock them up together in isolation during the Covid crisis.
What could possibly tan-go wrong?
Judge Motsi Mabuse is currently filming the German version, and said isolating the professionals and partners had been a success there.
The series launched four weeks before lockdown was imposed.
Motsi said: “The couples are all together. We do not have an audience, we cut in applause.”
