Trolls World Tour expands the world of Trolls to take in all different types of music, setting the stage for Trolls 3 to happen.
The animated sequel received a unique release as it skipped cinemas in the UK and US, becoming the first blockbuster to be released direct to digital streaming services.

That opens up the movie to a wider audience than it might have received in cinemas, so could we be seeing a third Trolls movie in the future?

Trolls World Tour ending: How does Trolls World Tour set up Trolls 3?
The sequel sees Queen Barb of the hard rock Trolls attempt to create rock zombies of the rest of the Troll tribes.
It's up to Poppy and Branch to stop her and unify the tribes in harmony against Barb's plan, but first Poppy needs to realise that pop music isn't the only kind of music and it's OK for Trolls to like different types of music.

She realises this just in time and foils Barb's plan to strike the "ultimate power chord" with the magical six strings from the various tribes. Both Barb and Poppy see the error of their ways and all of the Troll tribes are united as one.
During the celebrations, Branch finally reveals his true feelings for Poppy and she admits that she loves him too. Awww.
It leaves a blank canvas for a potential Trolls 3 to play from with no hanging plot threads to resolve, unless it wants to focus on Poppy and Branch's wedding.

Trolls World Tour gave a whistle-stop tour of the various Troll tribes, so it'd be fun to delve into each of the lands a bit more if there were to be a third movie.
Trolls 3 release date: When can we expect Trolls 3?
This is a tricky question as the success of Trolls World Tour won't be gauged by what it took at the box office. Universal will be able to judge how much of a success the sequel was from its digital sales, but it's hard to know what the criteria would be.
While £15.99 ($19.99 in the US) might seem like a steep price for a 48-hour rental, that is less than what the movie would take if, say, a family of four took a trip to the cinema to see it.
If Trolls World Tour does prove successful enough to warrant a third movie, fans could be in for a long wait, as there were four years between the first and second movie coming out.

Given the current uncertainty in the movie industry, it's hard to imagine development on the third movie starting any time before next year.
The sequel took three years to make, so you could be looking at a 2024 release at the earliest for Trolls 3.
Trolls 3 cast: Who's coming back for Trolls 3?
Unsurprisingly, all of the Trolls lived to sing another day in Trolls World Tour. This isn't Avengers: Endgame.
So if a third movie is confirmed, expect to see Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake back as Poppy and Branch, respectively, along with fellow pop trolls Biggie (voiced by James Corden), Guy Diamond (voiced by Kunal Nayyar) and Legsly (voiced by Ester Dean).

The sequel introduced a whole host of new Trolls too, so we hope there'd be returns from the likes of Rachel Bloom as hard rock Queen Barb, Ozzy Osbourne as hard rock King Thrash, Mary J Blige as funk Queen Essence and Sam Rockwell as yodel Troll Hickory.

Unfortunately, a trailer for Trolls 3 is a long way off as the movie hasn't even been confirmed yet.
