Christopher’s Light children’s charity accepting donations

Due to the increasing number of families experiencing unemployment, Christopher’s Light is seeking donations to purchase personal hygiene products, clothing and birthday gifts for the children it serves in Armstrong, Westmoreland and Indiana counties.

Checks made out to Christopher’s Light can be sent to P.O. Box 94, Apollo PA 15613. Those in need can register at Christopherslight.com or by calling 724-980-2840.

Young Parents Support Group to meet virtually

Allegheny Family Network North will hold its free Young Parents Support Group from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today and May 21 virtually via the Zoom app.

Scout troop urges donations to food bank

Due to the virus pandemic, the annual Scouting For Food project conducted by Boy Scout Troop 186 in the Birdville section of Harrison is canceled.

There is an increased need for help however, and the boys in the troop would like to encourage everyone to donate directly to the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches food bank.

June 2 and 5: The annual spring cleanup days have been rescheduled to be June 2 and June 5. Plum Community Center is closed and all events canceled. Meals on Wheels will continue as scheduled. Those over 60 who are food insecure or rely on the daily lunch can continue to pick up Congregant Lunch provided by the county on a take-out basis only. Pick-ups will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tax forms have now been placed into the Little Free Library since the library is closed. AARP Tax Appointments have been postponed and representatives will contact clients directly who have an upcoming appointment.

West Deer

East Union Presbyterian Church: all services and activities are canceled, except for West Deer Food Bank and Meals To Go distributions.
