Community parade planned to honor Springdale graduates

A reverse community parade to honor the Springdale High School Class of 2020 will be at 6 p.m. Monday.

Seniors will line up at 6 p.m. along Lincoln Avenue and community members can drive by to show their support. Rain date is Wednesday.

Vehicle line-up will be on Porter Street and the parade course will be marked. Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and must remain in their cars.

The event is sponsored by the Springdale High School Alumni Association and the Dynamo Education Foundation.


Hydrant flushing to begin in Cheswick

Cheswick Borough will conduct hydrant flushing Monday through June 12.

Customers may experience service interruptions or low pressure and should test water before doing laundry or drawing large quantities of water because it may be discolored. Allow a few hours for the discoloration to dissipate.


Riverview Community Action Corp. offering assistance

Riverview Community Action Corp. in Oakmont is closed until further notice; however, home meals are still being delivered.

Center staff will take calls from anyone who needs food or services through Allegheny County from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays at 412-828-1062.


Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp changed to July 21-31

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp has been rescheduled to be July 21 through 31 at Center United Methodist Church, 1575 Donnellville Road, Fawn. Orientation and a faculty recital will be at 2:30 p.m. July 19.

This nonprofit camp is for youths, 6 through 18, who will be separated into age groups, and includes chorus, hand bells, Orff, piano, jazz dance, teen ensemble, band, strings, composition, musical heritage, drama and art. A closing concert will be June 26. No experience is required.

Cost is $160 if paid by June 15; $185 by June 22. Checks will not be cashed until July. Sponsorship forms are due June 15.

Monday: East Vandergrift Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the East Vandergrift Senior Center, 400 McKinley Ave. Social distancing will be observed. Public welcome.

Freeport

Tuesday and Friday: The annual spring cleanup days have been rescheduled. Pickup on Tuesday will be for Laneville, Locust Street, Stewart Street, Hickory Way, Buffalo Street, Washington Street, Franklin Street, Mill Street and Second Street Extension. Friday will be for all other residents of the borough. All rubbish and junk items must be put out for collection the night before the scheduled pickup date. Details: 724-295-2251

Kiski Township

Sunday: Chicken and biscuit dinners will be sold from 1 to 5 p.m. at Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department, 1037 Route 56. Menu: chicken and biscuit, mashed potatoes, vegetable and coleslaw. Cost: $10. Orders required from 2 to 6 p.m. today. Orders: 724-478-4210

Lower Burrell

Monday: Lower Burrell Council will conduct the agenda meeting at 7 p.m. partially by teleconference at city hall, 2800 Bethel St. Public participation through written comments is encouraged and preferred. Written comments should be sent via US Mail or emailed to colb@cityoflowerburrell.com by 4 p.m. Monday. The agenda will be posted on the city website and at the municipal building. Physical presence by the public will be limited and subject to 6-foot physical distancing. Those attending must wear a face mask. Those without issues requiring immediate attention are asked to refrain from physically attending. The public will not be admitted beyond capacity. Anyone needing immediate assistance should call 724-335-9875.

New Kensington

Leechburg High School Class of 1953 Reunion planned in June is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

Lower Burrell

Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church: is closed for all activities and services.

Oakmont

June 15: The Oakmont 5K is canceled.

June 27 and 28: The annual Greek Food Festival sponsored by Church of the Holy Dormition Church is canceled.

Plum

Plum Community Center is closed and all events canceled. Meals on Wheels will continue as scheduled. Those over 60 who are food insecure or rely on the daily lunch can continue to pick up Congregant Lunch provided by the county on a take-out basis only. Pick-ups will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lunches must be ordered a day in advance by calling 412-795-2330.

Oakmont

Riverview Community Action Corp. is closed for all activities except home delivered meals. Questions: 412-828-1062

Saxonburg

Sept. 12 and 13: The Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is canceled.

The weekly Mingle on Main events are canceled. Refunds will be sent to vendors who signed up.

Springdale

The annual Springdale Jubilee, parade and fireworks are canceled.

Springdale High School Alumni Association meetings are suspended until further notice. The Monte Carlo night planned for April 25 has been rescheduled to Oct. 3.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn. Please hold on to your tickets. The fire department thanks you for your understanding and support and urges everyone to stay safe.

Sept. 13: The Craft and Vendor fair is canceled.

Tarentum

July 3: The Summit Hose Independence Day fireworks are canceled.

BridgePoint Church: Activities at the church, including the grief support group, and the children’s food and fun event are canceled. A live stream of the Sunday church service will be on Facebook Live.

Tarentum Eagles is closed.

Tarentum Elks Lodge is closed.

Veterans of Foreign Wars is closed and there will be no Friday night bar bingo.
