Birds Of Prey starring Margot Robbie rakes in $4M on its opening night with hopes of reaching the $50M mark for its debut weekend
This film features Margot Robbie's second time out as the iconic and zany girlfriend to the Joker, Harley Quinn, and so far it's getting great word of mouth.
The DC comics movie Birds Of Prey enjoyed a somewhat healthy opening night on Thursday, with cinemagoers flocking to the film as it is the only brand-new release this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The flick, whose lengthy full title is Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn, took in $4 million on Thursday, tracking to post a $45m to $50m-plus opening over the weekend.

While both Marvel's Deadpool in 2016 and fellow DC movie Joker from last year pegged far more than Birds on their first night — with Deadpool taking $12.7 million in previews and billion-dollar-grossing Joker getting $13.3 million — Birds Of Prey is not that far off from another competing superhero movie Shazam, also from DC, which opened to $5.9 million on its first night.
The film, which co-stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez, is also on par with other female-led crime caper stories, like 2018's Ocean's Eight.
Birds Of Prey currently sits at a health 84 percent on meta review site Rotten Tomatoes, with an audience score of 88 percent.

Margot previously portrayed the multicolored and morally questionable Quinn in 2016's Suicide Squad, and after Birds has no less than THREE other movies coming up in which she will reprise the role yet again.

The third project is a yet-to-be-titled Joker/Harley Quinn project, which Robbie and Jared Leto, who played Harley's maniac boyfriend the Joker in the 2016 film, are rumored to be in.
Birds Of Prey, directed by Cathy Yan, is in theaters everywhere as of Friday.
