EastEnders fans were left crying out in horror on Friday night as Whitney Dean brutally murdered her stalker Leon King in bloody Valentine's Day scenes.

Viewers rushed to Twitter to praise the soap after a gripping episode saw Whitney finally escape Leon's clutches by stabbing him with a knife.

Leo arrived in Albert Square last year determined to get revenge for his late father Tony, who was sexually abused Whitney as a teenager.

On Friday Whitney was petrified to learn that Leo had been stalking her despite her attempts to escape his clutches, as he finally revealed his identity in an epic final showdown.

After being cornered by the villain in her house, Whitney fought back as Leo tried to kill her.

Desperate to defend herself, Whitney grabbed a knife and stabbed Leo, and as they both collapsed to the group she was stunned to realise that he was dead.

Hysterical at the fact that she had murdered someone, Whitney's reaction ended the episode on a haunting cliffhanger.

Fans rushed to Twitter to share their reaction to the heart-stopping scenes, with many praising the soap for such a gripping episode ahead of its 35th Anniversary next week.

Bosses have already teased that one character will be killed off in the dramatic scenes, with an action-packed trailer hinting that Linda Carter could meet a grisly fate as her alcoholism spirals out of control.
