Holly Willoughby insists there is no 'feud' with Phillip Schofield - Daily Mail

'It would be impossible to fake the giggles': Holly Willoughby insists there is no 'feud' with Phillip Schofield... as Piers Morgan takes a swipe at her This Morning co-host

Holly Willoughby has spoken out on a reported feud with her This Morning co-host Phillip Schofield.

The ITV star has insisted in a new interview with Closer that the two, who have presented together since 2009, are the best of friends and it would be 'impossible' to fake their bond onscreen.

She said the pair are just as close offscreen, regularly ringing each other and holidaying with their families.

No drama: Holly Willoughby has spoken out on a reported feud with Phillip Schofield, insisting 'they are the best of friends and it would be 'impossible' to fake their bond onscreen

'We ring each other and talk to each other all the time anyway, about this and other things,' Holly explained, adding of their natural chemistry onscreen.

'We know what we're like. It would be impossible for us to fake the giggles. I'm on the telly for two and a half hours - let me tell you, I'm not that good an actress. If I was, I'd be doing something else.'

Phil previously told The Mail On Sunday that he is baffled by the rumours, insisting:  'Can you imagine a feud between us ever happening? We are so open on the show, we are so open online and we go on holiday together.'

'Holly is the sister I never had, we think at the same speed. It's so organic… it's a shame.'

On Tuesday Piers Morgan appeared to take a thinly-veiled swipe at Phillip while the This Morning star's reported nemesis Ruth Langsford giggled alongside.

Appearing on Loose Women on Tuesday morning, the GMB presenter, 54, appeared to make a bold statement about the This Morning host, who is said to be at the centre of a civil war behind the scenes at ITV with Ruth being involved.

The journalist quipped: 'Everyone thinks nice guy Tom Hanks, people are thinking are they that nice? We all know people who are supposed to be nice in the business, don't we Ruth? I wasn't talking about Ruth – Eamonn will like that one.'

As Piers descends into guffawing laughter, the rest of the Loose Women panel appear to think he was taking a dig at Ruth.

He swiftly made the point that he wasn't talking about Ruth - leading to the assumption from viewers that he was talking about Philllip.

Fans swarmed Twitter to pen: 'YES PIERS, good for you for calling out the feud with Phil/Ruth! I was screaming...

'The Piers Morgan Phillip Schofield dig is going to be Viral by 2pm. #LooseWomen... Was that a hint about Phillip? #loosewomen @piersmorgan...

'@piersmorgan created a very awkward moment on today's #LooseWomen, referring to Ruth's supposed feud with Phillip Schofield. #ThisMorning'.

Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes have reportedly been involved in a high-profile rift with Phillip, 57, after he interrupted her while she was presenting a preview for the show via a video link-up last year.

Ruth is said to have made a formal complaint against him due to the 'toxic' backstage atmosphere the alleged feud has created.

Last week, Amanda Holden took another thinly-veiled swipe at nemesis Phillip amid ongoing rumours of a fallout in the ITV family.

Reports of a feud between This Morning hosts resurfaced during the NTAs, when Phillip's interaction with Ruth on stage was dubbed 'frosty'.

Amanda previously said she believes Phillip sabotaged her chances of filling in on This Morning in 2018 while Holly hosted I'm A Celeb.

Reports have long been rife about troubles between the TV hosts, with the latest detail of the story claiming Amanda headed to the top by lobbying ITV executives over the animosity after Phil allegedly pushed for Rochelle Humes to take the job.

Amanda first worked with Phillip when she stepped into Holly's shoes when the This Morning star took a year off the show to have her third baby four years ago in October 2014.

A former daytime TV executive told the publication: 'Phillip actively campaigned for Rochelle, 30, to get the job despite Amanda being more experienced - and having been told privately she'd got the gig.'

An ITV spokesperson said: 'Presenter line ups on This Morning change regularly and final decisions on these line ups are made by producers and not the presenters.

'Phillip Schofield is a much loved broadcaster and part of the ITV family. He is a consummate professional and held in high regard at ITV. Amanda is also held in high regard as a judge on one of our biggest shows.'

It is claimed eight different ITV presenters have broken their silence regarding Phillip's attitude, while Ruth is thought to have made a formal complaint to ITV's new head of daytime TV Emma Gormley.

It followed an incident in April which saw Phillip interrupt Ruth while she was presenting a preview of Loose Women during This Morning.

As This Morning scooped top prize in the Live Magazine Show category at the NTAs, Ruth, who was seated behind Phillip and Holly with her husband and co-presenter Eamonn, made her way to the stage at London's O2 Arena.

And viewers couldn't help but point out the 'frosty' and 'awkward' interaction between the TV personalities, following reports that Ruth filed a formal complaint with ITV bosses in December about Phil.
