Killing Eve series 3: Star reveals character's death will impact plot - Metro.co.uk

*Warning, major spoilers for Killing Eve series 3 episode 1 ahead.**

Killing Eve is back, and it’s back with a vengeance, with the first episode of series three taking out one of the show’s most adored characters in shocking closing scenes.

The final moments of Slowly Slowly Catchy Monkey knocked us all for six as Kenny (played by Sean Delaney) came plunging to his death after falling from a window. Whether or not he was pushed or he jumped remains to be seen.

Eve (Sandra Oh) was the unfortunate soul to find him sprawled out on the pavement and it’s certain that this tragic event will be the main driving force behind this chapter’s narrative. But why Kenny?

Metro.co.uk caught up with Sean to discuss his character’s devastating fate and what this means for his mother Carolyn (Fiona Shaw), Eve, and the show’s trajectory. He began by disclosing that he was in New York City when he got the call from producer Sally Woodward Gentle and his agent to deliver the news of Kenny’s death.

‘Contractually I knew it might be my last season,’ he said. ‘They called saying they had an idea and they asked me what I thought about it. I thought it was genius, I have to say, for the sake of the story and what it does for Carolyn and Eve in terms of storyline and emotional depth.

‘I think it’s really, really necessary, so I was all for it.’

Shedding a light on how Kenny’s death will steer the story, without giving away too many spoilers, Sean continued: ‘It acts as a domino effect for a whole load of things. I’ve never been so involved in a series with so little screentime!

‘One thing I will say that is from episode two onwards, you start to see a very different side to Carolyn. There’s a scene in episode two and I think it’s going to be the start of where the Bafta nominations will go crazy for Fiona Shaw because it’s stunning.’

While audiences are yet to understand why Kenny has come to be dead, the pieces to the puzzle will soon reveal themselves.

‘I think everything will become clearer in later episodes when they work out what he’s investigating,’ Sean spilled.

‘The whole thing happens within the world that has already been set up, I’ll say that much. However, there’s another option which is the idea that nobody pushed him off. That question becomes raised in later episodes.’

Consider us invested.

RIP Kenny, we’ll miss you!

Killing Eve is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
