Some Marvel fans are just realising the emotional significance of Star-Lord's name - digitalspy.com

As if we couldn't have loved Guardians of the Galaxy more, director James Gunn has revealed a really sweet aspect of Star-Lord that fans might have missed.

Gunn took part in a Guardians vol 1 'watch party' on Twitter on Tuesday (April 7), which saw the filmmaker and many of the cast watch the movie and chat about their experience shooting it.

He tweeted: "The fact that Quill is so adamant about his name being Star-Lord because that's what his Mom called him isn't brought up to me often."

When Quill finally opens the letter his mother wrote to him before she died, she calls him her "little Star-Lord" and so that's why he chose the name.

One fan replied to Gunn: "That's surprising to me because that's definitely my biggest tear-jerker moment of the movie. Putting such a sweet, touching spin on something we thought was Quill being cocky/goofy is emblematic of the movie's appeal."

While another tweeted: "Seriously? I always just thought it was because he wanted a cool sounding nickname. I never looked any deeper than that... that's really cool and makes me look at his character a lot differently!"

A third added: "Broke me the first time I watched the movie. Still gets me teary."

Gunn will be back to direct Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3, just as soon as he's finished working on The Suicide Squad for DC, so there will be a bit of a wait for it.
