  • Stylist revealed the colour is associated with moments of 'hope' and 'healing'

The Queen may have been sending a message of 'hope and healing' with her turquoise outfit, while her glittering brooch invoked memories of happier times  during her TV address to the nation.

Speaking from Windsor Castle, where the 93-year-old monarch is isolating with Prince Philip, she told millions of Brits watching from home last night: 'If we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.'

The royal donned a bright turquoise look as she delivered the powerful message to the nation, adding to the chic and simple outfit with Queen Mary’s diamond and turquoise brooch.

Stylist Susie Hasler, who runs Styled By Susie told FEMAIL the royal's decision to wear the turquoise was important revealing: 'It’s a very calming colour - and it’s also representative of hope and healing.'

Meanwhile the brooch, which dates back to 1893 and is rarely worn by the royal, was perhaps most significantly last worn during the final evening of her 90th birthday celebrations in 2016.

Susie revealed: 'The Queen's outfit choice for her incredibly important speech showed that she was mindful of the mood of the nation.'

Susie went on to reveal how the choice to wear turquoise invoked a 'calming' feeling and 'hopeful' message, saying: 'These are all things that the public needs right now in this difficult time.'

The stylist also added that the royal could have also been paying tribute to NHS staff and healthcare workers with the colour choice.

She said: 'It’s also worth noting that her colour choice is also a similar shade to what medical teams in the NHS are donning at the moment, perhaps indicating solidarity with them as they carry out their crucial work.

Meanwhile the Queen's bold brooch also appeared to have significance in the poignant speech.

The piece was a wedding gift from Mary’s in-law’s, the-then Prince and Princess of Wales, who later became King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

The Queen is believed to have inherited the brooch after Queen Mary's death in 1953, but didn't wear the piece for many years.

She first donned the brooch during a visit to Derbyshire to celebrate the 230th anniversary of knitwear company John Smedley Ltd.

The royal has since only worn it a handful of times and, perhaps most significantly, selected the piece for the final evening of her 90th birthday celebrations in 2016.

The evening was an official celebration of the Queen's remarkable public life and  very much a family celebration, with royals including Prince Charles, the Cambridges, Prince Harry and Princess Beatrice and Eugenie all in attendance.

The choice  to select the piece for such a historic and poignant evening could be seen as a lark back to celebrations amongst family and friends, which the Queen urged the nation to look forward to.

Her Majesty's extraordinary intervention is only the fifth time she has addressed the nation during her 67-year reign and comes as the UK death toll from the pandemic neared 5,000, with 621 new deaths yesterday.

She invoked the spirit of the Second World War, repeating Dame Vera Lynn's famous words as she promised the nation: 'We will meet again'.

The monarch shared special praise for the NHS, thanking medical workers for their work and sacrifice in the battle against the virus.

She said: 'I want to thank everyone on the NHS front line, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles, who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties outside the home in support of us all.

'I am sure the nation will join me in assuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times.'
