Gordon Ramsay reportedly 'spoken to' by coastguard over lockdown behaviour - Cornwall Live

TV chef Gordon Ramsay is said to have received a ticking off from the coastguard in relation to his apparent flouting of the Government’s lockdown rules.

Ramsay, his wife Tana and their children have been holed up at their £4 million mansion at Trebetherick, close to Daymer Bay, as the UK remains in coronavirus lockdown.

Cornwall Live reported yesterday (Friday, May 1) how the 53-year-old TV star has twice been spotted buying pasties and flapjacks in Fowey, 25 miles away from their mansion.

Ramsay has also been spotted on other occasions in Fowey where he owns a property which was once Lloyds Bank.

He converted the property into a luxury holiday home in Fore Street overlooking the estuary.

Ramsay and his family arrived in Cornwall prior to the imposition of lockdown but the celebrity chef's lockdown move sparked an outcry among some local residents, who claim he is setting a bad example and putting the local population at risk.

According to dailymail.co.uk sources, Ramsay has been seen in Rock, Fowey, Port Isaac and Newquay – all of which a distance from his home in Trebetherick.

A source at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, whose officers and volunteers carry out patrols of the beaches and around coastal areas, is said to have told dailymail.co.uk: “We have reports of him being seen in dozens of different places since lockdown started.

“He does not seem to be obeying the rules regarding social distancing, exercise and staying at home.

“We are aware of him having travelled to Port Isaac, which is eight miles away from his home, to Newquay, which is 23 miles away, and even at his third Cornish home in Fowey, which is 25 miles away and a 45-minute drive on a good day.

“One of our staff spoke to him about the frequency with which he was being seen out and about, and the significant distances. After a period of reflection, he seemed to calm himself and took on board what was being conveyed in a most polite manner.”

Ramsay has also made social media posts showing him going out for long distance bike rides to train for a charity ironman triathlon.

He has also been criticised for filming a video urging people to 'Stay At Home' as part of a campaign on YouTube.

Gordon Ramsay's spokesman has so far failed to comment.

An official spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “We can’t comment on individual cases. Our advice to the public is to follow government guidance and stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives.

“Those who get into trouble at the coast or at sea and have to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard are putting frontline emergency responders at risk of COVID-19 and putting avoidable pressure on our vital NHS services.

“We’re asking people to stretch their legs but not our resources by staying close to home for their exercise”
