The young royal, who has become known and loved for her cheekiness, sassiness and adorable royal waves to the press and public, will today be celebrating her birthday at home in Anmer Hall with her family.

To mark the occasion of her fifth birthday, her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have released new images of the youngster.

Snapped by keen amateur photographer Kate recently near their home in Norfolk, the photos show Charlotte lending a helping hand in the local neighbourhood.

The new photos were taken when Prince William, Kate and the kids helped pack up and deliver homemade pasta and food packages for the vulnerable and isolated pensioners living in their local area in Norfolk.

The photos, published by Kensington Palace on social media, have received thousands of comments from well wishers.

So, as Princess Charlotte celebrates turning the grand old age of five, we look back at her life in pictures so far, from her first introduction to the public outside the Lindo Wing in London, to her first royal tour, day of school and the moment she proved she mastered her Great Grandmother’s iconic royal wave.

Despite rumours that she may be named Alice, Kate and William chose the moniker Charlotte for their little girl, which just so happens to be the middle name of her aunt – Kate’s sister – Pippa Middleton.

Princess Charlotte’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

There hasn’t been a member of the royal family called Charlotte in over two hundred years, so this little Princess was destined to make her mark and carve her own path.
