The scan revealed a mass on his brain and he was taken in to have brain surgery, but the tumour was unfortunately too intertwined, so the surgeons couldn’t remove it.
Sam and his wife were then told by doctors that the cancer in his brain had metastasized from his lungs. Further scans showed the cancer was also in his liver, spine, and jaw.
Sam, who was the nephew of Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd, played Ted Buckland in 95 episodes of Scrubs.
Alongside his acting career, he was a talented singer and performed with the A cappella group The Blanks.
Sam also had roles in Cougar Town, Desperate Housewives, and appeared as the character Ricky on Seinfeld.
