Some astronomy writers are pegging the upcoming May full moon as another supermoon — a full moon that appears bigger and brighter than an average full moon because of its closer orbit to the Earth. Others, however, say the May full moon will be just an ordinary one, because they use different measurements to classify a moon as a supermoon.
Regardless of what you call it, this month’s moon will officially be at its fullest phase at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, May 7, which means it will look nearly full Wednesday night, completely full Thursday night and 98 percent full Friday night.
Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate and keep the clouds away long enough for observers to catch a glimpse of the full moon as it moves across the night sky.
