An ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin recently warned of a possible Third World War saying that "blood will flow," while criticizing U.S. President Joe Biden's administration.
"The primitive blackmailing that Biden Administration has unleashed against the Congress is not new and has historical precedents," Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chair of Russia's Security Council said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The post went on to discuss Biden's request to Congress to approve more aid for Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia. Medvedev wrote: "Since the Cuban Missile Crisis, never has been the threat of direct confrontation between Russia and NATO, turning into WWIII, so real."
"The Administration and their scared fosterling are sure to get the money. If not now, then in the coming year, to go on with their war business at all costs. And for this dough, new rivers of blood will flow, for which Biden family and their [Banderite] scum are responsible," Medvedev said. Newsweek reached out to the Russian Foreign Ministry via email for comment.
The post from Medvedev comes shortly after Biden called on Congress to approve additional security funding for Ukraine before lawmakers leave for the upcoming holidays.
"History's going to judge harshly those who turn their back on freedom's cause. We can't let Putin win," Biden told Congress this week. "This cannot wait... Frankly, I think it's stunning that we got to this point in the first place."
Shortly after Biden's remarks, Senate Republicans blocked a debate on Ukraine funding and called for other issues to be discussed instead, such as security on the U.S.-Mexico border.
In a letter to the White House responding to the request for more Ukraine aid, House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote: "With respect to the Administration's request for additional Ukraine funding, the position of Congressional Republicans has been clearly articulated since October 26, 2023. On that date, I met in the Situation Room with you, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and other key leaders to present two essential prerequisites: security at our border, and critical answers regarding the funds requested."
Johnson stated: "First, I explained that supplemental Ukraine funding is dependent upon enactment of transformative change to our nation's border security laws...Second, I explained that Congress and the American people must be provided with answers to our repeated questions concerning: the Administration's strategy to prevail in Ukraine; clearly defined and obtainable objectives; transparency and accountability for U.S. taxpayer dollars invested there; and what specific resources are required to achieve victory and a sustainable peace."
Newsweek reached out to the White House and the U.S. State Department via email for comment.
