At the start of the show, Ant and Dec opted to gloss over the presenter's extended break as the show returned following a two year hiatus.

TV host Ant expressed his excitement to be back as he introduced the show and said: 'I can't wait to get going - so let's just get going!'

After being welcomed back warmly by the studio audience, the presenters revealed they must 'move on' as they gave a run down of the show ahead.

Although they largely avoided the topic of their absence, the boys did reveal what they've been up to during their break from the show, as they revealed they have been busy with I'm A Celebrity, Britain's Got Talent, and building a house.

Ant and Dec kicked off the show by unloading a removal van full of their belongings as they arrived at the show's new location, Television Centre.

Camilla Cabello was at hand to introduce the show as this week's guest voice over, as she joked she loves it when they call her senorita.

Next up the dynamic duo headed to chat to their entertainment act of the night, the Pussycat Dolls, where they referenced their recent racy X Factor performance.

Dec said: 'They were practically in their underwear, it was raunchy, this is a family show - I'm worried about the kids, and the dads! Two were hospitalised last time.'

'Simon Cowell hasn't recovered, he looks shocked all the time!'

Addressing the issue with the girls, Dec said: 'For me can you make sure non of the outfits are too raunchy?

Ashley replied: But..', Dec quipped back: 'Butts! That's what got you into trouble last time.'

The generous pair then revealed their final show will be held in Disneyland in Florida, before giving away a series of spots on the plane over to the event.

The star-studded show continued with Mark Wahlberg, who played a game with the presenters called I'm A Celebrity Get Out Of Me Ear.

Mark had to follow ridiculous instructions from Ant and Dec while hosting at his restaurant Wahlburgers and welcoming guests into the venue.

Some of his jokes included repeatedly saying 'delightful' in an English accent and trying to feed women chips, as well as telling a man he was a 'big boy'.

Reaction: Fans were rejoicing at the return of the show, with many taking to Twitter to express their happiness that Ant and Dec were back on their screens

The final part of the show included a very racy performance from the Pussycat Dolls, who wowed in scantily-clad ensembles as they sung a range of their hits.

Throughout the show Ant and Dec had joked that their performance would be 'family friendly', however when the racy routine kicked off their sprinted down to the stage with a huge mock 'censor button'.

But despite their earlier reluctance the boys soon got into the swing of things, as they began stripping off to their vests and boxers during the raunchy performance.

Ahead of the show, Ant was spotted sporting a loose red tunic with embroidered gold detailing underneath a thick cape with a fur hood.

Stood beside him, Dec wore a similar ensemble to his friend and co-host, however he opted to wear a blue tunic for the bit.

Both men looked almost unrecognisable as they sported thick beards and long flowing locks, which were a far cry from their typical clean cut appearance.

It was later revealed that they were practising for the first Ant vs Dec challenge, which involved throwing axes at targets.

Dec took the first win as he managed to gain more points than Ant.

Ant's return to Saturday Night Takeaway had been much anticipated after the show took a hiatus last year in the wake of his drink-drive arrest.

The presenter took a break from presenting duties after he was arrested for drink-driving in March 2018, while he and Dec were still hosting Saturday Night Takeaway.

McPartlin told police he was 'ashamed and mortified' after crashing his car while drink-driving with his mother in the passenger seat.

His new licence was issued in July 2019, MailOnline understands.

Ant's £86,000 fine eclipsed the £54,000 imposed on footballer Yaya Toure for the same offence in 2016, reported at the time to be the biggest sanction of its kind in the UK.

The 20-month ban always had the option of a five-month reduction if Ant completed the referral programme, which he has now completed.

Friends of the TV star said he had completed a course that was available to anyone, and had not received any special treatment.

Wimbledon Magistrates' Court heard that McPartlin had been seeking help for 'alcohol and emotional issues' at the time of the crash in Richmond, west London, on March 18, having recently split from his partner of 11 years.

He and his wife Lisa had confirmed they were splitting last January and were granted a divorce in October 2018.

The I'm a Celeb host and his teenage sweetheart had married in 2006.

They first met in Newcastle in 1994 before exchanging vows at a stunning country house in Buckinghamshire, in 2006.

Court documents alleged that McPartlin had 'committed adultery' and that his former wife found it 'intolerable to live with' the TV star.

Following their split, it was revealed that Ant was dating former PA and mother-of-two Anne-Marie.

Lisa has since revealed she didn't know personal assistant Anne-Marie and her ex-husband were dating until she saw pictures of them together in a newspaper.

After the drink-driving case he stepped back from his role in Saturday Night Takeaway, leaving Dec to host the rest of the series solo.

Ant also took a break from his role as a presenter on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, as Holly Willoughby replaced him for last year's edition.

Last year, Ant and Dec revealed how they had considered ending their partnership over McPartlin's drink-driving conviction.

A sentencing judge told him his behaviour had left fans disappointed and stripped him of his former 'exemplary' character.

Speaking on the court steps following sentencing McPartlin said: 'I just want to say I'm truly sorry for what happened.

'High standards are expected of me, I expect them of myself. I've let myself down, I let a lot of people down. And for that I am truly sorry.

'I'd like apologise to everybody involved in the crash and I'm just thankful no-one was seriously hurt.'

McPartlin pleaded guilty to driving with 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He collided with another Mini Cooper before driving 'straight into the front of an oncoming car' – a BMW with a doctor and her nine-year-old son on board.

The driver of the other Mini said in a statement: 'Myself and my family were in deep shock as we believed we could have died as a result of Mr McPartlin's reckless driving.'

The driver of the BMW – named only as Dr Ng – said she immediately looked over at her son following the crash to make sure he was OK and he said: 'I'm dying mummy, I'm dying.'

'I saw he was physically fine with no major injuries, but in shock,' the statement said. 'He described how the car was coming around the corner 'like a rocket'.'

She told how the airbags of McPartlin's Mini had deployed and said she feared for the life of the driver inside.

'I'm horrified at how someone can drive so dangerously. I genuinely thought the driver of the black Mini had died as there was no movement and it was a really forceful crash,' she added.
