I'm A Celeb star Nadine Coyle admits she hasn't spoken to her Girls Aloud bandmates for SIX YEARS amid long-running war of words with Cheryl
She’s gearing up for what she hopes will be a successful spell in the Australian jungle for the forthcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
But Nadine Coyle doesn’t know if she has the full support of her former Girls Aloud bandmates, because she hasn’t spoken to them in more than half a decade.
The Northern Irish singer, 34, told The Mirror: 'I spoke to Sarah (Harding) around the time of Big Brother but I haven’t seen or spoken to them since the end of Girls Aloud or just before I had my daughter.
Hopeful: Nadine Coyle is gearing up for what she hopes will be a successful spell in the Australian jungle for the forthcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
'So that’s about six years ago. Sarah more recently at the start of Big Brother when she was very excited, but yeah I haven’t spoken to or seen any of them in about that long.'
The admission comes following a long-running feud with former band-mate Cheryl, and a recent admission that the group were 'never really friends' during their time together.
'There was no falling out, there was just no friendship to begin with,' she told Celebrity Juice in 2018.
Old times: But the singer doesn’t know if she has the full support of her former Girls Aloud bandmates, because she hasn’t spoken to them in more than half a decade
Speaking to The Sun, Nadine added that her outspoken nature frequently ruffled her band-mates' feathers.
'It was fine at the start but there’s always politics in any band. It just happened that I always got more vocals than everybody else, so in terms of people wanting their voice heard, that wasn’t happening,' she explained.
'It made people, very bitter. They didn’t like that. It’s so sad for me to have to admit this stuff now because for so long, there’s the band, and you want everybody to think we’re best friends and we have pillow fights and, you know, drink milkshakes.
Divided: The admission comes following a long-running feud with former band-mate Cheryl, and a recent admission that the group were 'never really friends' during their time together
'That’s what I wanted it to be. I really, really wanted that to be, but it just wasn’t how it was. We’re all very, very different characters.'
Nadine's comments came after Cheryl lashed out at her onetime band-mate, insisting the beginning of the end for Girls Aloud was when Nadine decided to go solo.
When presented with the claim that the split was decided by herself and her bandmates Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl told Attitude: 'She’s full of s**t. What d’you want us to say? She’s full of s**t.
Outrage: Cheryl previously lashed out at her onetime band-mate, insisting the beginning of the end for Girls Aloud was when Nadine decided to go solo
'She was the one who wanted to make a solo record. Which is why we took the hiatus. So she’s not now going to say that we broke up the band. No? That’s it. She wants to come out and say we broke the band up? No!
'She shouldn’t tell porkie pies. She should remember why we took the hiatus after seven years so she could go and...
'Okay, so do you want us to tell the truth? She wasn’t going to make another Girls Aloud record until she got a solo deal.
'I feel she held us to ransom And then made her solo record deal. It’s the truth. She’s saying that we broke the band up. So there you go.'
Getting involved: Nadine is one of ten new celebrities to throw their hat into the ring for the forthcoming nineteenth series of the long-running show
Nadine is one of ten new celebrities to throw their hat into the ring for the forthcoming nineteenth series of the long-running show, held annually in remote rainforest on Australia's east coast.
However the singer insists she is not interested in winning, preferring instead to focus on the experience of living outdoors for a maximum of three weeks.
'I’m not even thinking about it as a competition,' she said. 'Obviously I had to enter a singing competition to get into Girls Aloud whereas this is like who’s going to be the best Jungler, who makes the best fire, who makes the best water.
'To me I’m not seeing this as a competition but I know there’s a whole voting thing which makes it slightly different but I’m really just thinking about it as an experience.'
Cautious: Ahead of her arrival, Nadine said that she has become much more fearful of things since becoming a parent to daughter Anaiya, five, with former partner Jason Bell
Ahead of her arrival, Nadine said that she has become much more fearful of things since becoming a parent to daughter Anaiya, five, with former partner Jason Bell, 41.
She confessed she used to be 'so brave' and led a 'go, go go' lifestyle, but has become afraid of 'even being in the car and flying' since becoming a mother.
Nadine said: 'I am scared of so many things. I really want to try something completely new. I used to be brave.
'In the past, I’ve opened a restaurant, had a record label, had my daughter and it was go, go, go with all of these.'
On being afraid to carry out simple activities in her life, she added: 'Now I have got so fearful even being in the car, flying or general things.'
The singer said she hopes I'm A Celebrity will renew her confidence: 'I think it is since I became a parent that I am much more afraid.
'I really hope that by doing this, it pushes me so far out the comfort zone and that I learn to be comfortable, feel relaxed and do the things that I didn’t used to be afraid of.'
I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! launches on Sunday November 17, ITV1 at 9:00pm.
