A statement, written by Mr Barrowman and shared on the Hippodrome's Twitter page, explained that the shows have had to be cancelled.

'I'm devastated to have to tell you that due to severe neck injury, which has made it impossible for me to sing and move, I've been rushed to hospital for a diagnosis.

'The Doctors have advised me to not perform this weekend while I try and recover, so I've had to make the very difficult decision to cancel my performances at the Bristol Hippodrome on Saturday 30th November and at the SEC Armadillo, Glasgow, on Sunday 1st December.

'I am so dissapointed (sic) and upset as I was looking forward to seeing you all, I feel I am letting everyone down, but it's simply not possible for me to do the show in my current condition.'

Sitting alongside husband Scott Gill, the actor was wrapped up in a blue hoodie and knitted cardigan, and gave a thumbs up for the selfie.

The Desperate Housewives star wrote alongside: 'Heading to hospital for an MRI scan on my neck!

'I’ll Keep you all posted on my progress - Bless you all and thanks for all your good wishes.. JB.'

MailOnline has contacted John Barrowman's representatives for comment.

The worrying news about John's hospitalisation comes just two weeks after he debuted his short grey hair on Extra Camp.

The star was unrecognisable, leaving viewers divided over his new look with many branding him a 'silver fox,' while others claimed the hairstyle 'aged him.'
