Meghan Markle isolated: How Royal Family left Duchess and Harry ‘out on a limb’ - Express

Richard Palmer, royal correspondent at the Daily Express, laid bare what he understood senior royals think about the Sussexes’ struggles with the media in their recent privacy war. He said and appear to be “out on a limb”. Mr Palmer said: “There has been no support from within the Royal Family, as far as I can tell, for Harry and Meghan’s confrontational approach to the media.

“They are out on a limb on that.”

The royal correspondent said Prince Charles and Camilla are among those who didn’t think it was “a good idea” to openly speak against the press in a confrontational way.

He said on Twitter: “The Queen, Charles and Camilla, and the Cambridges don’t think it a good idea and there have been words.

“They’ve all had their ups and downs with the media.”

Prince Charles is understood to have grown very close to Meghan over the past months.

The Prince of Wales agreed to walk Meghan down the aisle on her wedding day when it was announced her father, Thomas Markle Snr, could no longer fly across the pond due to health concerns.

After the wedding in 2018, the pair bonded over their passion for arts and culture and love for Harry.

One source told Vanity Fair: “The wedding was a real turning point.

“Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage.

“The bond between them is very close.

“Charles has been very supportive of Meghan and everything she is going through with her own father.

“He’s got a real soft spot for her and thinks she’s the best thing to have happened to Harry.”

DON'T MISS

While Mr Palmer said senior royals close to Meghan and Harry are understood to have been against their privacy war, the Queen is said to be “disappointed” about how Meghan and Harry’s relationship with the press.

The journalist continued: “The Queen is disappointed how it’s all turned out in the first 18 months of the Sussexes’ marriage.

“Like others in the family, she is concerned about their emotional wellbeing and she sees them regularly.”

Meghan and Harry’s spokesman announced on Wednesday evening the Sussexes are to take a break this winter and spend Christmas away from Sandringham and other royals.

The Duke and Duchess will, instead, spend time with Doria Ragland, mother of Meghan and grandmother of Archie Harrison.

Saying the couple were “looking forward to extended family time”, they added: “Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.

“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

The spokesperson said the palace won’t add further details concerning where Meghan, Archie and Harry will stay over the festive period due to security reasons.

Mr Palmer said the break has been welcomed by other royals who acknowledged Meghan and Harry needed “some time out”.

He said: “The Sussexes, contrary to the views of some, have not been excommunicated from the Firm.

“Everyone recognises they need to take some time out.

“My understanding was that yesterday morning they were minded to spend Christmas away from Sandringham but had not finalised their plans.

“They had not told the Queen what they had decided to do about Christmas.

“Once they had, they made an announcement because of the amount of media interest in the story.”
