The actress wore a long black and white checked coat, black heels with cut-out details and a stylish black pillbox hat with netting for today’s Buckingham Palace ceremony. In February, the 45-year-old won an Oscar for playing Queen Anne in The Favourite. Ms Coleman was pictured chatting to the Queen’s daughter at the event before declining to talk to reporters as she left the palace.
She was handed her CBE for her services to drama under her real name, Sarah Sinclair.
Her meeting with Anne, 69, was particularity fitting because the princess is set to be introduced as a character in the upcoming third series of The Crown.
The drama will be released on November 17.
CBE awards are given out by the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William or Princess Anne.
Rising actress Erin Doherty, who is best known for playing Fabienne in the BBC adaption of Les Miserables, is set to hit TV screen playing a young Anne.
Series 3 will also see the Queen’s three sons introduces as adult characters after they were played by child actors in the two previous seasons.

This week it was reported that Charles was unhappy about how he was portrayed in the drama.
The Prince of Wales was said to be worried about potential damage to his public opinion by affair scenes.
According to The Sun staff who work for the first-in-line to the throne and the Duchess of Cornwall banned The Crown stars from attending a royal event.
The launch of Netflix’s Our Planet starring Sir David Attenborough in April was attended by Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry.
A royal source told the paper: “Charles’s staff are deeply paranoid about The Crown. They are trying to make him a popular king-in-waiting.
“But the next few seasons are going to be increasingly focussed on the Prince of Wales’ behaviour, especially around his marriage to Diana and affair with Camilla.
“The timing couldn’t be any more disastrous in terms of Charles’s bid for popularity.”
