The Crown will portray the death of Princess Diana but not Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior royals, after the show’s creator decided to end the saga earlier than planned.
The Netflix drama was originally conceived as a six-series epic covering the life of Queen Elizabeth II up to the present day. However Peter Morgan, the writer and creator, announced yesterday that it would end after the fifth series, in which Imelda Staunton takes over from Olivia Colman as the Queen.
The final series would take The Crown “into the 21st century”, he said, indicating that it was unlikely to chronicle events beyond the early 2000s.
